Ada East Health Directorate Celebrates 2026 Workers’ Day.

ADA EAST DISTRICT HEALTH DIRECTORATE MARKS WORKERS’ DAY WITH UNITY, SPORT, AND WELL-BEING

The Ada East District Health Directorate joined the rest of Ghana and the global community to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day with a vibrant and engaging celebration held at the Ada East District Hospital, Faithkorpe. The event, which commenced at approximately 10:30 a.m., brought together staff from the directorate, the district hospital, and various sub-districts in a show of unity, appreciation, and healthy recreation.

Why Workers’ Day (May Day) Is Celebrated

Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is observed annually on 1st May to honour the contributions of workers to national development. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices, resilience, and dedication of the workforce, while also advocating for improved working conditions, fairness, and respect for labour rights.

In Ghana, the 2026 celebration was anchored on a theme that emphasized productivity, unity, and the collective responsibility of workers in driving national growth, principles that strongly resonate with the health sector.

Promoting Unity and Wellness Through Activities

In line with this theme, the Ada East District Health Directorate organized a series of activities aimed at promoting teamwork, physical well-being, and social interaction among staff. The programme featured a variety of sporting and recreational events, creating a relaxed atmosphere away from the usual demands of healthcare delivery.

One of the highlights of the day was the participation of administrative staff from both the district directorate and the hospital in friendly indoor games such as cards, Ludo, and Oware. These activities, though competitive, were filled with laughter and camaraderie, reinforcing the importance of mental relaxation and interpersonal connection in the workplace.

Adding excitement to the event was the 50-meter sprint, where staff members eagerly tested their speed and endurance in a lighthearted contest. The spirit of participation was evident, as individuals from different departments stepped forward to compete, cheered on by their colleagues.

Football Match Brings Excitement

The much-anticipated football match between teams from the sub-districts and the hospital team also drew significant attention. In a thrilling encounter, the sub-district team emerged victorious over the hospital side, a result that was received with excitement and good sportsmanship from all participants.

Staff Participation and Engagement

Notable staff members including Dr. Yeboah, Dr. Annor, and Mr. Mamoud Seidu, the Administrator of the hospital, who actively represented the hospital in several events, expressed their satisfaction with the opportunity to engage with colleagues beyond the clinical setting. Other notable participants included Mr. Atitsogbui, Administrative Manager at the District Directorate; Mr. Raphael Kwabena, the Nutrition Officer at the District Directorate; Mr. Edmund Ninson from Kasseh Health Center; and Mr. Maxwell Kofi Azumah from the District Directorate.

Such positive psychological effects are essential for healthcare workers, whose roles often demand high levels of concentration, empathy, and resilience.

Appreciation and Staff Reflections

The event also provided a valuable platform for staff to mingle, share experiences, and build stronger bonds. Conversations flowed freely, and the atmosphere was marked by joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging.

In a brief remark, the Facility In-Charge of Kasseh Health Center expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the district management for organizing the event. He commended the initiative as a meaningful way to promote unity among staff and encouraged the leadership to sustain such activities in the future.

However, he also expressed concern over the absence of some staff members, urging them to participate in subsequent celebrations to fully benefit from the sense of togetherness such events provide.

Refreshments and Social Interaction

To complement the day’s activities, participants were treated to ample food and refreshments, ensuring that everyone remained energized and comfortable throughout the programme.
